We-new - Verdes Pastos

We are a group of evangelical believers from different churches in Tenerife.

We have all been campers at some stage who then became monitors who then became church leaders with a desire to continue to lead and teach others. Most of us have completed Bible College courses or degrees or have many years of experience.

We are united in seeing the need for creating a venue for camps and retreats in Canarias. It started with a few of us dreaming together and when we shared it, God added to our team the passion and skills we needed when we needed them.

What we believe

God is the creator of everything. Without him none of what we have come to know about reality would have existed. He keeps the universe and our earth running. He is present in all his creation without having distanced himself from it. That is why Verdes Pastos wants to make responsible, generous and ecological use of the place we manage, recognising that it is part of God’s creative work. >>

God is one and at the same time a community in relationship, composed of three persons (Father, Son and Holy Spirit). It is an incomprehensible reality for human beings, but it is still true. By his own nature he is a God in a continuous relationship of love and justice. That is why Verdes Pastos wants to offer an environment of harmony and reconciliation, offering unity and communion to people. >>

Human beings are a wonderful creation of God. He impressed his own character on us, although we are infinitely smaller than him. Since the beginning of human history we have lived in rebellion towards God, which has entailed enormous consequences for each of us, for societies and for nature itself. That is why Verdes Pastos wants to give the greatest value that can be given to people as God’s creation, being aware of their vital situation: their needs, limitations and rebellion.

Jesus Christ is God, and he entered our history as a human being, being born of a woman. He has been the only person who has lived his humanity fully and came with the purpose of establishing a path of reunion with God and restoration. That is why Verdes Pastos is based on his person, proclaiming Jesus as Lord and the only way to reach total restoration and relationship with God. >>

The death of Jesus Christ on the cross and his resurrection were the pillar events in his person in this world. It was a victory over the problem of death and is the door to a new life. It is the display of God’s power of restoration. Those who have trusted him know that he will return to put an end to human history and restart a new all-fulfilling life. That is why Verdes Pastos bases its work on this hope of restoration and takes as an example the surrender of Jesus Christ as a way of proceeding and loving. >>

The Holy Spirit is God, he is present invisibly in this world, making God’s work effective among us. Its purpose is to bring us to Jesus Christ and mould us into his person. For this reason, Verdes Pastos wants to be a place where the presence and work of the Holy Spirit is recognised, creating an environment where His presence is manifested in cooperation with local churches, in the promotion of justice, love and respect for all creation. >>

God has formed a community, which we call the church, which is made up of those people who have decided to accept Christ’s invitation to be his student, committing to live for him. Therefore, although Verdes Pastos is not an ecclesiastical institution, it nevertheless recognises and promotes community life, collaborates with local churches and is a channel for people to find a nearby community where they can integrate.
